The Lemon, it has a lot more benefits than just making lemonade.  This little football shaped fruit is a powerhouse of goodness for the body!  The lemon is acidic naturally but when taken internally and introduced to the body fluids it becomes alkaline and helps to bring balance to the body’s ph. What does ph stand for you ask?  Power of hydrogen, that’s the measurement of the hydrogen ion concentration in the body.  To have a healthy body, the ph balance is stated that it should be at 7.  So drinking lemon water (no sugar or syrup added) helps to bring the body naturally into balance.  Of course there are other things to aid in that also.  Keeping the body alkaline is essential to life.

Rich in vitamin C and flavonoids the lemon aids in fighting colds and the flu.  The key is to start your intake prior to the cold and flu season.  By consuming lemons daily, you build up your resistance to the bug consistently therefore making you less susceptible.  Lemons are good for detoxing the liver.  It is said that fresh lemon juice helps dissolve uric acid, liquefies the bile and other poisons. This was stated by Jethro Kloss in his book “Back to Eden”.

Lemons help with bowel movements, assisting to cleanse your system and keep it from being sluggish.  Drinking warm lemon juice water first thing in the morning can help to make you regular!

The citric acid in lemons has been named in being supportive of dissolving kidney stones, gallstones and even calcium deposits too. The lemon peel contains tangertin which has been proven to reduce cholesterol and acts as an anti-tumor agent, which stops the growth of cancer cells.  This same phytonutrient has been proven to be effective for brain disorders like Parkinson’s disease.

Lemons kill intestinal worms and have many antibacterial properties.  Lemons even strengthen blood vessels.  I could go on and on about the goodness of the lemon; because there are so many other benefits.  But, this last tip I want to leave you with about lemons (fresh ones) is that they are great for use as an underarm deodorant.  Truly!  I was amazed at this fact too.  My daughter told me about it and I tried it out with 90 degree weather…fantastic holding power.  No funk.  I put it to the test with my power walking in the morning and although I perspired there was no smell.  Yeah!  A great and natural alternative to commercial underarm deodorant; try it and see.  Who knew?  The lemon, its one incredible piece of fruit.

*Because lemons are acid naturally make sure you dilute with water because continuous eating of lemons can wear on the enamel of your teeth.
